Seven Killed After Drone Crashes on Crowded Russian Beach

Seven people, including three children, were killed after a drone crashed onto a crowded beach near Gelendzhik in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai on Monday, according to Russian officials.

The incident occurred in the village of Arkhipo-Osipovka, where beachgoers were swimming and relaxing when the drone came down near the shoreline.

Beachgoers Caught in Deadly Incident

Krasnodar Krai authorities said the incident claimed the lives of three children and four adults.

Officials also reported that around 40 people were injured, with 17 hospitalized. Russian health authorities said four of those hospitalized, including two children, remain in serious condition.

Videos circulating online appear to show the drone descending toward the beach moments before impact, sending people running for safety.

Conflicting Claims Over Drone

Russian authorities initially reported that drone debris fell onto the beach following an interception by air defenses.

However, Ukrainian Telegram channels claimed the drone crashed after being affected by Russian electronic warfare systems. Those claims have not been independently verified.

The circumstances surrounding the drone’s impact remain under investigation.

Questions Raised Over Warning System

Local reports have also raised concerns about the area’s emergency warning system.

According to Russian media, local officials announced a drone threat before later declaring it over. However, residents and tourists said they never heard any warning sirens despite the village reportedly having an alert system.

Authorities have not publicly explained why the warning system allegedly failed to activate.

The incident marks one of the deadliest reported attacks affecting civilians on Russia’s Black Sea coast in recent months.
